Journey to the West is a tablet writing companion for 西遊記, operated by Technologies InstantHPI Inc. This page explains, in plain language, what is stored and what is not.
Your handwriting is temporary
Handwriting is used only while you practise the current verse. New strokes are not saved and not uploaded, and previously saved handwriting is not restored when you return. Which verses you have finished is remembered separately.
Your progress stays in this browser
Journey to the West is free for everyone, with no account needed. This browser stores:
- which verses you have completed,
- your writing streak and the date you started,
- your settings: ink colour, guide opacity and the like,
- the interface language you chose.
That data never leaves the device except through the one service named below, and only when you use it. Progress does not move between devices on its own. Clearing this site's browser data removes your progress, your settings and any handwriting older versions left behind.
What leaves this device
Nothing leaves this device. Journey to the West is opened from its own address and reads only the files it ships: the app itself, the chapter text, the paintings, the fonts and the writing guides. There is no account feature, no analytics service, no advertising network, no font CDN and no tracking pixel, so no request is made to any address other than the one this app was opened from.
Painting reactions
This edition has no reactions service. A painting can be looked at, and nothing is counted, sent or stored anywhere when you do.
No tracking
The writing app uses no analytics and no advertising trackers. There is no profile of you, and nothing here is sold or shared.
Optional donations
Giving is optional and changes nothing: every verse and feature stays free whether or not you give. If you choose to support Journey to the West, the payment links open a separate payment page run by Stripe, which collects the contact and payment information you enter there and processes the payment under its privacy policy; the card details are never entered in this app and this app never receives them. The payment recipient, Technologies InstantHPI Inc, can see donation records such as your contact details and the amount paid. Amounts are in US dollars (USD): a monthly gift recurs until you cancel it and a one-time gift does not repeat (5 USD suggested, 0.50 USD minimum), and a monthly gift can be cancelled from the Stripe billing page at any time. Donating never sends your handwriting or progress to Stripe.
No payment is taken in the app. This edition has no donation link, no purchase and no subscription, so no card or payment details are ever collected here: Journey to the West is free for everyone, and Technologies InstantHPI Inc receives nothing from your use of it.
